Derby (noun) To ride around in a circle with a beer in one hand,steering with the other, trying to knock your friends off their bikes. Classic game of destruction and good times. A game initiated by the Koski brothers of Marin County, whose parents owned a bike shop.
Drop In (verb) To turn onto to a little used single track. Best,if you don't know the way, to let your friend drop in ahead of you, or you'll miss the turn.

Mud pup (noun) Famous cartoon character, a bicycle that took its owner for rides. Nowadays, any devotee of the dirt.
New Paradigm (noun) A perfect trail. Named for the tragically terminated, secretly built and long-enjoyed single track on Pine Mtn, Marin County.
Single track (noun) To officials, any trail a truck cannot chase bikers on. To experienced cyclists, a trail with a tread 12" or less, preferably contouring, so it's rideable in both directions.
Schwag (noun) Promotional material given (i.e. "free") to professional racers, i.e. umbrella with Shimano logos, tea towel with WOMBATS on it,national team uniform. Usually incredibly ugly (if it is already in your possession) but highly desirable if seen on another rider.
Taco (verb) To fold a wheel in half (by mistake!) "She taco'd her wheel when she hit that rock".
Technogeek (noun) Anyone who follows metal fashion trends, usually has no engineering background.
WOMBAT (noun) Australian marsupial 2. Usually slow-moving female cyclist of the off road persuasion, often seen sipping tea on south-facing slopes. Shares with others whatever she's got: her food, her patch kit,pump, even her meager know-how. Patronizing attitude conspicuously lacking.
